Some Art=Guns=Art | Gun Paintings by Andrea Helm

Some time circa post-lunch today found me scrolling through social media instead of working. Happily, I spotted something that made me think, “I gotta get one of those!”: they’re gun paintings by Art of the Gun. Now I can write something about it and I won’t feel bad for wasting 45 minutes of life- and work-time on Instagram.

Art of the Gun is a shop on Etsy. It features painting, woodburning, and other muse-driven endeavors by Texas-based artist (and occasional competition shooter) Andrea Helm. Most of what you see here (though not all) is firearm-focused, i.e. gun artwork (@artofthegun on Instagram)

Gun paintings: Barrett MRAD, Chevy Nova, and Dodge Charger

Because wanted something from her site, I thought some of you might as well. Plus it’s always a good idea to order your bespoke gifts early, particularly once the Black-Friday-to-Christmas frenzy begins. That’s doubly true now that we’re experiencing shipping and other delays across the country.

Check this one out.

gun painting of a bolt action rifle in West Texas snow
This particular gun painting is a rendition of a bolt action rifle owned by the author’s brother, shown here on a West Texas field covered by snow. This particular weapon (the model, as it were) was built by Red Beard Gunworks of Portland, TX. It features a Bighorn Arms TL-3 action, a Bighorn Arms TL-3 action, Kinetic Research Group Whiskey-3 chassis, Q Trash Panda suppressor, and Bushnell Elite Tac optic.

The Winter Hunt. This is a woodblock-style firearms illustration of a 12.5-inch SBR bolt gun in .223, built by Red Beard Gunworks in Portland, Texas. The background is a winter day in West Texas, where the wind cuts to the bone and the snow is dirt-colored . . .

This artwork features 105 different watercolor layers, cut out and stacked digitally like a Japanese woodblock. That’s an STI International Costa Comp 2011, cut by ATEi for an RMR red dot, and a 2007 Suzuki DR650SE in the background. Along with a very peaceful West Texas sunset.

There is more to be had than gun paintings, of course, particularly if you visit her other collection, Car and Craft.

A Nova, a Charger, and an MRAD walk into a bar...
A Nova, a Charger, and an MRAD walk into a bar… So, the story behind this is, the artist got hold of some 1/6 scale miniature Beretta MRADs some time back. She gave them (well, some of them) to her nephews for Christmas. Since the boys also had some miniature cars (a Chevy Nova and a Dodge Charger, to be specific), she felt it appropriate to pose some shots with all the above. This painting is the result.
